Despite the University's exclusive contract with Pepsi, there is still one place to get a Coke on campus. Wendy's is still negotiating with the University to continue using The Coca-Cola Company's products. Representatives said there is no deadline set. Wendy's continues to support its beverage contract with Coca-Cola in both its vendor locations in the Busch Campus Center and the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue campus. President of Rawson Foods Stephen Baclini - whose company runs more than 20 Wendy's restaurants in New Jersey and New York - said the company remains in deliberations with the University over the conflicting terms of their beverage contracts. Baclini said he would not comment on the negotiations until they are complete. The Exclusive Beverage Contract Committee made the decision to change the University's exclusive beverage provider from The Coca-Cola Company to Pepsi this summer. The committee said the switch occurred because Pepsi offered to pay $17 million to the University over a period of 10 years in exchange for exclusive beverage rights. Coca-Cola - which was the runner-up - bid $2 million less than Pepsi. The new contract provides roughly $1.7 million to the University each year and requires there be only one beverage provider on campus. Director of Dining Services Charles Sams said between $600,000 and $700,000 from vending commissions will help counter rising dining costs to students. Beverages now offered through Pepsi include Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist, Tropicana and Dole juice products and fruit smoothies, specialty SoBe beverages and energy drinks and Gatorade.
