Impaler is a gruesome and humorous documentary that pursues Jonathon "The Impaler" Sharkey, a self-proclaimed Satanist, sanguinary vampyre, Hecate Witch, professional boxer and wrestler who entered himself into the 2006 Minnesota Gubernatorial race. This voyeuristic film accounts the bizarre allure the media had with Sharkey and his 13-point platform which included helping farmers, advancing the public school system and the need to impale terrorists, child molesters, rapists, drug dealers and murderers. Director Tray White promulgates the crazy and ultimately heart-rending events that took place throughout Sharkey's eight-month political campaign. The film intertwines several pieces of news footage, a Saturday Night Live skit and the home video displays of Jonathon's carnivorous side - actual displays of blood sucking from his lover's neck. This is a unique documentation that will leave you both curious and astounded.
Impaler is playing this weekend at the New Jersey Film Festival, along with Jack Arnold's cheese ball creature feature, cult classic, Creature From The Black Lagoon and a new short film from director Jonathan Budine, Take Out. Sharkey will be making an in person appearance at Friday night's screening.
