What can $100,000 buy? For starters, it can buy 184 pairs of designer Manolo Blahnik's latest pumps or 505 floral gem tops by Marc Jacobs. Too much to handle? Try this on for size: 98 yards of white satin, over 1500 crystal rhinestones, a 13-foot train, 28 seamstresses, and 1000 hours of work including 550 hours of hand-stitched embroidery... all to create... a wedding dress?! More specifically, the dress that Melania Knauss wore as she walked down the aisle to become Mrs. Donald Trump, III. Her one-of-kind creation by Christian Dior Haute Couture is, unquestionably, one of the most extravagant celebrity wedding dresses to date.

When celebrities get married, no price is too high to achieve the perfect fairytale wedding. However, no matter how outrageous the wedding may be, the one thing that will be talked about in the tabloids the next morning is the wedding dress. Who designed it, what material it was made of, how expensive, and of course, how the celebrity wore it. Regardless of how far female celebrities will go to have their perfect, unique dress, there is always a new trend in wedding fashion that is the under-lying tone to their selection.

Up until about four years ago, Vera Wang's name was synonymous when it came to bridal elegance. For celebrities like Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Lopez, Wang was the designer to turn to for their perfect wedding dress. Of course, Vera Wang isn't going anywhere; however, there is a new designer-to-the-star, Monique Lhuiller.

Lhuiller launched her first bridal collection in 1996. Since then she has created the most beautiful, exquisite dresses for celebrities like Britney Spears, bride to Scott Wolf, Kelley Limp (from The Real World: New Orleans), and bride to Kevin Costner, handbag designer Christine Baumgartner. Dresses designed by Lhuiller all have an unique quality to them, yet they still capture the essence of the classic beautiful bride. Each dress cost between $2,000 and $10,000, a small price to pay for perfection.

Another trend in celebrity weddings is not to have only one dress. One dress is simple and boring and celebrities want to be anything but ordinary. Why not have two dresses: one for the ceremony and one for the reception? When The Bachelorette's Trista Rehn married Ryan Sutter in their highly publicized wedding, television viewers were treated to seeing her in two, custom-made Badgley Mischka dresses. Britney Spears also had two dresses designed by Lhuiller: a long Italian silk dress for the ceremony and a short, lace dress for the reception. And of course, in true Star Jones Reynold's fashion, she also had two Reem Acra dresses for her wedding on November 13, 2004.

To add a personal touch to their wedding dresses, celebrities incorporate color into their dress. When Gwen Stefani married Gavin Rossdale, she integrated her signature color, pink, into her Dior by John Galliano dress. Also, the hip-hop world always tries to stand out above the crowd and that is exactly what artist Kelis did for her wedding dress. Instead of the traditional white dress, Kelis opted for a green silk chiffon Matthew Williamson dress.

Although it is taboo in Hollywood for celebrities to be married for longer than five years - for the time being - celebrities spare no expense to make their special day perfect. The bride's wedding dress sets the mood for the entire day and at the same time, sets the newest trends in wedding dress fashion.
