Pump up your party playlist with classic Halloween hits


Halloween is creeping up on us and that means it's time to start planning the annual candy-filled, ghoulish Halloween party. There are so many festive elements that go into planning a party: scary costumes, spooky treats, haunted stories and an eerie playlist. Music is a required party feature because it sets the mood and brings the life out of your attendees. Without it, your party might as well be “dead.”

1. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

This song is a Halloween must! Throughout the song, there are sound effects such as creaking doors, howling wolves and high-pitched screams. This song features frightening themes that contribute to the creepy mood of the lyrics.

2. “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker

“Who you gonna call?” This Halloween favorite is one you cannot pass up. After the production of the original movie, this song took a spooky hit on the charts. Fun fact: many people relate “The Mystery Gang” from Scooby Doo to the original Ghostbusters. Can you blame them? Jinkies.

3. “This is Halloween” by The Citizens of Halloween

This song is from the 1993 film, "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The eerie setting of the film makes it a favorite among teens and children alike. Filmed in a fictional Halloween-town, this song gives people that pumpkin-spooky vibe.

4. “Monster Mash” by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers

Do you remember dancing to this song while playing the Wii game, "Just Dance"? This song will surely bring back those memories for all of the 90's kids. Who wouldn’t want to listen to this song during a Halloween party?

This song came to Shakira “very mysteriously,” and before she knew it, she was panting and howling just like a wolf. This song can bring everyone’s inner wolf out from within!

This song has a very nice, electronic dance feel to it. The song describes a boy that looks like a monster. One of the lyrics is, “he ate my heart,” which could be interpreted in multiple ways. This could be the perfect romance song for a Halloween party.

This song features very chill music tones, creating a creepy riff effect. This song carries the theme of death and illusion, which could definitely be appealing to anyone looking for a good Halloween scare.

10. “Heat of the Moment” by Asia

It is stereotypical, but Halloween is sometimes about dressing to impress. Besides, what is a Halloween night without a steamy song to set the mood? This song brings guitar and electronic beats to life while dancing the night away. This song was featured in the show “Supernatural,” where the characters fight demons and evil myths every day!

Whether it is a ghouling song about werewolves or a thrilling song from a hit movie, there are many Halloween songs that can set the mood for a party. Halloween is all about the tricks and treats, so there are many songs that can conjure up fear!
