*** TO THE RUTGERS COMMUNITY ***
Yesterday's front page featured a brief and two photos detailing the tragic death of a University student. While they accurately depicted the scene, the photos were callous and had no place running in our paper. They elicited a very strong reaction from the Rutgers community, who also deemed them gratuitous and insensitive.
As senior editors of the Targum, we take full responsibility for the printing of the photos and for the way the story was presented. It demonstrated a severe lack of judgment on our part, as we did not fully consider the effects that the images would have on the community.
We sincerely apologize for any unnecessary grief the photos have caused to those who knew the individual as well as any other members of the community who were offended. While the photos are inexcusable, this situation has made our editors aware of the need for sensitivity when covering such serious issues. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student's friends and family.
Sincerely,
Claire Eddinger Wesley, Editor-in-chief; and Steven Williamson, Managing Editor…

I fall a lot. I think I have fallen on every staircase of the College Avenue campus. From the slick stairs leading down to Records Hall from Brower Commons to the secret steps in the tower behind Rutgers Student Center, I've seen them all. I've fallen alone, and I've fallen in front of friends.
One important factor about the new stadium issue that is food for thought has to do with my own experience in these matters. Most of my classmates don't know this, by a series of circumstances too complicated to get into now, around 1975, I was named the fund drive coordinator for a $40 million dollar arts construction project that sought to raise this money for a new symphony hall and a major extension to the existing San Francisco Opera House.
There is simply no role at the NJSDA for a
company that believes it can be paid to manage but is free from responsibility for its errors.
