After the stress of midterms is over, students can relax and look forward to the upcoming Fall Spa Week, held in multiple counties throughout New Jersey.
From Oct. 13 to 19, local spas will be promoting a variety of treatments at the discounted price of $50. Massages, body wraps and facials are some therapies these spas will offer.
Eden Organix, located in Highland Park, will be participating in this year’s weeklong event.
Founded by Valerie Mason-Robinson, a former cosmetic researcher and chemical engineer, Eden Organix was one of the first green spas to open in New Jersey. The spa prides itself on using natural, organic and eco-friendly products on its customers while promoting environmental awareness, Mason-Robinson said.
Some treatments offered for Spa Week include organic pumpkin hydrating wraps, organic garden harvest facials, sea salt body polish and aromatherapy massages, she said.
“Eden Organix is an environmentally-friendly business with a social conscious to donate 10 percent of their profits back to organizations that help women, kids and the environment,” Mason-Robinson said.
The spa has a special promotion for University students and faculty, offering a 20 percent discount on services on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, she said.
First-time participant Serenity Day Spa, located in South River, N.J., is also offering therapies such as sea salt invigorating scalp massages, therapeutic/aromatherapy massages and deep cleansing facials.
The spa’s philosophy is to offer excellent service with a personal touch to help make a difference in the lives of their customers, according to their Web site.
“Since this is a time of economic difficulty, we thought that it would be nice to offer these services to the public at an affordable price,” said Maria Corona, the spa’s director.
In Edison, the Lookin Good Day Spa will be promoting therapies such as the Thai Poultice Massage, which combines herbal poultice along with medicinal heat to alleviate muscle tensions. Other promotions include the organic honey, guava and sea salt body scrub, and a custom aromatherapy facial, according to the Lookin Good Day Spa Web site.
The idea for Spa Week came to founder Cheryl Reid of Spa Week Media Group, Ltd. when she began brainstorming a way to promote the spa lifestyle and its benefits to the busy lives of New Yorkers.
“The concept was simple: full service treatments, normally costing from $100 to $200 for just $50 dollars,” Reid said. “No longer would spa be relegated to the wealthy. It was my mission to make it an affordable part of a healthy lifestyle routine.”
Reid said she also needed to figure out a cost-effective way to drive this new clientele into the day spa market.
With more than 10 years of public relations and promotions knowledge of the beauty and spa industry, Reid set out to put her ideas into action in the Spring of 2004.
The first Spa Week, held in October 2004, featured 25 participating spas in the New York area. Popularity for the event has grown to include more than 21 cities and 750 participating spas in the United States and Canada.
A list of other participating spas and promotions can be found on the event Web site at spaweek.org.
