The United States is currently in the midst of an oil and gasoline problem. Prices have been climbing at enormous rates for consumers and with the looming war, lobbyists and members of Congress have been worried about the oil supply. In response, some have suggested the United States tap into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, located around the Gulf coasts of Texas and Louisiana, which holds over 600 million barrels of crude oil.
Pete Rose -- one of baseball's finest -- was turned down from being admitted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame Monday. He is not eligible in the United States because of his lifetime ban from baseball due to findings that he placed bets on 412 baseball games.
Hi. My name is Nicole and I suffer from the Superman Syndrome. How did my addiction begin? While other kids spent their Saturdays with cartoons and T-ball games, my father and I traced the veins of the tri-state area's baseball card show circuit. The reward for my hard work was a stack of comics. It was a childhood slightly left of center, I'll admit.
When I was growing up, I always wanted to be "someone." By "someone," I meant an important person, who was respected and admired-- perhaps a doctor, a lawyer or even a movie star. After I completed high school, the goal was the same, but the perception of "someone" changed. It was molded to be Mom's definition of successful, a self-sufficient, highly paid and prosperous individual. With these thoughts in mind, I entered my higher education thinking it would simply be the next step to land that job and start being "successful."
Ever since I stepped on to the track my first year of high school I have been known as a runner. I ran all three seasons, and was captain of two my senior year. It didn't matter what else I was involved in from band and choir to the yearbook and school plays, I was always referred to as a runner.
I am writing in response to an editorial ,titled "The morning after," published in the Sept. 18 edition of The Daily Targum. I was shocked to think someone would take a national issue and twist it to local interpretation.
