With only one day of rehearsal behind them, the Mason Gross School of the Arts jazz ensemble shined Tuesday night in the Nicholas Music Center on Douglass campus. In the audience, heads swayed and feet tapped to the upbeat music of the ensemble. Jazz conductor and singer Frank Sinatra Jr.
Lillian Forero, the Douglass College Government Association president, wished eight of her fellow members good luck at on their upcoming trip to Philadelphia at Tuesday night's meeting. The students will hone their leadership skills and learn how to take their government association to the next level at the American Student Government Association's Northeast Student Government Training Conference.
The University's transformation into the future School of Arts and Sciences will amplify the quality of undergraduate education in a way the University has not accomplished before - at least this was the message of Vice President for Undergraduate Education Barry Qualls and Director of Implementation Michael Beals at Tuesday's Rutgers College Governing Association meeting.
Students interested in the latest computer technology were able to visit the Busch Campus Center yesterday where 33 vendors, including Apple, Adobe, FileMaker, Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems, advertised their newest products. "We take IT vendors that the University deals with on a regular basis," said Director of Information Technology Support Frank Reda.
Students looking to secure summer employment had the chance to meet with prospective employers yesterday and to apply for available positions. The University's Student Employment Office hosted the job fair, which included representatives from more than 30 companies, including The Limited, Carrier Clinic, Re/max Best Realty and the Victorian Manor.
• An unknown individual stole a $200 school ring from an unattended display Tuesday in the food court of the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue campus, said Acting Lt. Thomas Chartoff of the Rutgers University Police Department. The suspect, identified as a black male wearing a do-rag, picked up the ring from an unattended display by the class ring vendor Exemplar Recognition, and walked away with the item, Chartoff said.
