Let people live their lives without judgment

I was struck recently by an editorial I read entitled “Smoking obviously bad for you,” a headline that leads us to wonder why, if it is so obvious, is it worth writing about? There seems to be a prevailing assumption that smokers are blissfully ignorant to the nature of their condition, that if only they were made to confront the horrible truths of smoking they would change. Our intrepid columnist, thus, charges herself with saving us from our “consciously pernicious” behaviors.
