This past weekend, the Rutgers volleyball team extended its losing streak to five matches, struggling to overtake any of the three teams from the UMKC Kangaroo Klassic held in Kansas City, Missouri.The Scarlet Knights had two matches on Friday, falling to Northern Iowa and later UMKC in straight-set victories for the opposing teams.
This weekend, Sept. 8-9, the Rutgers volleyball team heads off to Kansas City, Missouri for the UMKC Kangaroo Klassic where they will face the Northern Iowa (UNI), South Dakota, and the host UMKC Kangaroos.Last year, the Kangaroos won the tournament with a 2-1 record, even though Northern Iowa had defeated them (3-1). The Scarlet Knights has not participated in the Kangaroo Klassic in the past, but it seems as though the team will have yet another challenge ahead of themselves.This season, the Kangaroos and South Dakota both have an overall win 2-4 and a hitting percentage .165 and .333, respectively.
Rutgers’ volleyball team had a strong start last week as the Scarlet Knights competed in the East Carolina Invitational, the Seton Hall Classic, as well as a home opener in between the two tournaments.
As the 2017 season comes to a close, the Rutgers men’s golf team took a difficult loss at this year’s Big Ten Championship from April 28-30 by finishing in last with a final score of 892 (298-291-303). Junior team captain Matt Holuta led the Scarlet Knights by tying for 24th in a total score 217 (70-72-75).Illinois claimed the Big Ten title with a score 829 (269-279-281). Placing second and third respectively were Northwestern and Ohio State.Although Rutgers had a disappointing finish to conclude their spring season, the Knights had a strong start to their season by defeating both No. 2-seeded Michigan and No. 6-seeeded Ohio State at the Big Ten Match Play Championships in Palm Coast, Florida.Rutgers continued its momentum into the Colleton River Collegiate where the Knights finished fifth in the field.
Rutgers men’s golf team stumbled last weekend as the Scarlet Knights finished ninth at the Rutherford Intercollegiate on Sunday, hosted by Penn State at the Blue Course in State College.

Another pair of matches and another pair of straight set losses haunted the Rutgers volleyball team this past weekend as the team travelled to College Park, Maryland and Columbus, Ohio to face off against Maryland and Ohio State.
Although the Rutgers volleyball team collected one more pair of losses to Michigan and No. 10 Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights had some positives this weekend. They collected their first Big Ten set win at home since Nov. 18th, 2015 when the team played against Purdue.
