Rutgers experiences mixed results in split weekend

The Metropolitan Championships might have been the peak for the Rutgers men’s track and field team this outdoor season. Although many of the same succeeding athletes made headline performances at either meets this weekend, many other event athletes did not have the same success rate.

Rutgers bounces back with first place at Metropolitan Championships

As if the Rutgers men’s track and field team needed a reminder or extra push of motivation after many weeks of weather obstacles and abrupt meet changes, the team reclaimed the Metropolitan Championship crown on their home soil after a disappointing “so close, yet so far” second place loss to Manhattan College in 2016. At the Bauer Track and Field Complex, the Scarlet Knights accomplished more than just broken records and nine title wins; they made a comeback from a “disappointing meet” at the Princeton Invitational last week and won back the team pride at their annual outdoor meet. With their natural touch to their own turf, the Knights went into this meet with a fresh level of intensity and provided the crowd with many exhilarating performances. Two Rutgers athletes, junior javelin thrower Christopher Mirabelli and senior jumper Emeka Eze, broke school records as well this past weekend. Mirabelli ended a javelin record drought of over 20 years, instilled by Christopher Sagnella back in 1996.

Senior Rajee Dunbar has compiled five event wins for Rutgers, coming in the 100 and 200-meter dashes as well as team relays.

Rutgers rides momentum into Florida State Seminole Invitational

After overcoming rainy and cold conditions en route to its second-place finish at the Metropolitan Championship last weekend, the Rutgers men’s track and field team gets to look forward to better weather this weekend as they head to Tallahassee, Florida, to participate in the Florida State Seminole Invitational.

Freshman sprinter Chais Hill’s time of 14.40 in the 110m hurdles event was good for first place at the Colonial Relays.

Rutgers places second at Colonial Relays

When a team starts a season off well, there’s always pressure to continue the hot streak. Other teams put a target on your back, the pressure to do well rises and succumbing to said pressure might impede your performance. Apparently, no one told the Rutgers men’s track and field team. After a strong start to their outdoor season in Tampa, the Scarlet Knights continued their dominance at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Freshman sprinter Izaiah Brown finished in first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.63 seconds at the Valentine Invitational, an IC4A qualifying mark.

Rutgers wins 2 events at Valentine Invitational

The Rutgers men’s track and field team went to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University last weekend. The Scarlet Knights produced 10 Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) qualifying marks for the track and field championship in March.
