UPDATE: Doors open to the general public at 1 p.m. and the event starts at 3:15 p.m.

After a week of anticipation and more than 52,000 reservations, Gov. Jon S. Corzine’s campaign July 16 rally with President Barack Obama will not occur on Voorhees Mall on the College Avenue campus or at the University.

“The outpouring of interest is absolutely outstanding and we are thrilled to have you participate and engage in this campaign,” said Corzine’s Campaign Manager Maggie Moran in a YouTube message posted on the campaign Web site. “Unfortunately, through, that capacity is not there for an event of that size. As a result, we have a new venue to announce — the PNC [Bank] Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J., will be where the location of the rally will be held on July 16 with President Obama and Gov. Corzine.”

During the next two days, the Corzine campaign will call all 52,000 people who signed up to tell them if their reservation is confirmed.

The PNC Bank Arts Center is a modern amphitheatre that offers seating for about 17,500, according to their Web site.

Moran went on to thank everyone who registered for the event and said she wants those who registered but will not be able to attend to stay active and involved in the campaign.

“The University has been informed that the July 16 event with President Barack Obama and Governor Jon Corzine is being moved from Rutgers to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Gregory S. Blimling. “The event therefore will have no impact on our campus or the surrounding community.”
