Assistant Vice Chancellor for Health & Wellness Melodee Lasky reminded undergraduates in an email last week of the deadly effects of Meningitis, which were seen in the spring when two students with the disease were hospitalized. Before returning to school in the fall, all undergraduate students should verify they have received part of the 3-dose vaccination series of Trumenba®.

So, here are a few places you can receive the vaccine.

Student Health Center

Vaccinations are administered at the Hurtado Health Center. Students need to bring their RU ID along with their insurance card. All insurances are accepted and the summer fee is waived for meningitis B vaccine appointments.

Walgreens Pharmacy

No prescription is required, but students need to bring their insurance card to the pharmacy. A certified pharmacist will administer the shot. Walgreens accepts UnitedHealthcare StudentResources, the insurance that Rutgers provides. The out-of-pocket cost for the meningitis B vaccine is $159.99, but with insurance, the cost could be fully covered.

CVS Pharmacy:

CVS does not require a prescription for the meningitis B vaccine. A licensed pharmacist will administer the shot. The pharmacy most major insurance plans. With insurance, the cost of the vaccine could come down to a few dollars.

Rite-Aid Pharmacy

No prescription is required for those over the age of 18. Rite-Aid accepts UnitedHealthcare StudentResources, as well as Express Scripts, Caremark, OptumRx, Medimpact, Cigna, Humana, Medicaid, Medicare Parts B and D. A certified pharmacist would administer the shot and no appointment is necessary.

Walmart

All Walmart stores in the Greater New Brunswick area are fully stocked with the vaccine, including the North Brunswick and East Brunswick Walmart near campus. No prescription is required.

Some retail stores may need 24-hours notification to receive stock. Check with your local pharmacy. To find the vaccine nearest you, call to speak with a Pfizer Vaccine Locator Specialist Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 1-800-683-8572.

After completing each dose of the vaccine, the healthcare provider or pharmacist must fill out and sign a form which the student will then send to the school as verification. The forms can be found here: http://health.rutgers.edu/meningitis/resources-forms/
