On Halloween, students at Rutgers dress in their best costumes to have a frightfully fun time. The Daily Targum's editorial board reflects on and shares why they love being in New Brunswick for the holiday.

Isabella Tyszka, editor-in-chief: "Halloween is such an exciting time — you get to dress up as anything you want. You can go to extraordinary lengths to find a perfect costume or alternatively put as little effort as possible into it. The nightlife in New Brunswick is a lot of fun, and if you're over 21, many places host costume contests like Huey's or Olde Queens. Still, if you're not into that sort of thing, staying in and hanging out is also an option!"

Victoria Yeasky, managing editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is how lively and active everyone is. I love seeing everyone and their mothers out and about roaming the streets (probably drunk) in their best costumes. There truly is not a sight like Halloweek at Rutgers — It’s not for the faint of heart!"

Astha Lakhankar, head news editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is how we have an entire weekend to celebrate rather than just one day. Plus, there is a multitude of local restaurants and bars to patronize throughout Halloweekend, so there’s always something new to do."

Kithmy Wickramasinghe, associate news editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is seeing how festive everyone gets. I've never been too big on Halloween besides the candy, but Halloweekend is definitely a huge thing for a lot of college students. I also like seeing pumpkins and other decorations around New Brunswick."

Claire Bruno, associate news editor: "My favorite part about Halloween in New Brunswick is celebrating with my friends. Even though my costumes always tend to come together at the last minute, I love seeing what my friends come up with for their costumes and then going out and seeing what other people are wearing too. Halloween at Rutgers is always so fun!"

Ricky Suta, opinions editor: "The best part about Halloween in New Brunswick is going out with friends. Being able to be silly and dress up is always a fun time. The bars all have great Halloween themes, and it is just a fun time to be out. As this is my last Halloween at Rutgers, I am really taking it all in and enjoying it all a little bit extra!"

Dylan McCoy, head sports editor: "The best part about Halloween in New Brunswick is being spooky and frightening (to my liver) in a funny costume with other members of the Rutgers community."

Jack Bisaha, associate sports editor: "The best thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is the nightlife. Halloween is always a big event at Rutgers, and people are always out and about. It is a fun weekend where you can have a good time with your friends."

Vy Nguyen, head copy editor: "The best part about Halloween in New Brunswick is seeing the effort that everyone puts into their costumes. People get so wildly creative with not only their ideas but also with the execution of them that even if you don’t understand the reference, you have to give them props anyway."

Henry Wang, photography editor: "My favorite thing is seeing how the streets of Easton Avenue turn feral with funny costumes and characters."

Chris Kim, head video editor: "My favorite part about New Brunswick Halloween is seeing so many people I don't know. I understand that Rutgers is a big school, but on Halloween nights, the streets are filled with tons of people."

Jonny Berkowitz, associate video editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is wearing costumes to class."

Meredith MacLean, inside beat editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween in New Brunswick is definitely seeing all the different costumes. People’s creativity gets better every year, and it’s so fun to see what everyone — both strangers out on the town and your friends — choose to dress up as."

Rachel Chang, social media editor: "My favorite thing about Halloween is dressing up with all my friends and watching fun movies!"
