The fire took place on Busch campus at a heating and cooling plant.

The roof of Rutgers–New Brunswick’s central heating and cooling plant, located on Busch campus, caught fire on Jan. 3, said University spokesperson Neal Buccino.

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) received the alarm at approximately 10:21 a.m. and issued an emergency alert to the Rutgers community. Piscataway Township firefighters responded to the issue, and the fire was put out by approximately 11:20 a.m., Buccino said.

“The fire was accidental, as a result of duct work removal,” Buccino said. “The damage is not extensive and there were no injuries.”

Buccino said the non-residential building did not lose power during the fire.
