Rutgers adds Wereski for 2021

The Rutgers baseball team is attempting to improve its roster despite the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. On Friday, head coach Steve Owens welcomed the addition of graduate transfer left-handed pitcher Ben Wereski, who was named an Honorable Mention All-Ivy League selection in 2019. Wereski is set to join the Scarlet Knights in the fall.

Junior guard Joey Downes had been with the Rutgers men’s basketball team since 2016. With the season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he looks back on his time wearing the scarlet and white. Sharing stories about his teammates and also head coach Steve Pikiell, Downes's account gives an insight into his years with the Knights. Being one of the veterans on a young team, Downes is excited to see what his former teammates have to offer for the 2020-21 season and beyond. 

Rutgers' Baker, Harper Jr., Yeboah earn conference awards

Players from the Rutgers men’s basketball team were awarded with Big Ten honors on Monday. The Big Ten committee unveiled its postseason awards. Junior guard Geo Baker, sophomore guard Ron Harper Jr. and graduate student forward Akwasi Yeboah were all recognized. Baker and Harper Jr. received All-Big Ten honors along with many talented Big Ten athletes. Yeboah was awarded the sportsmanship award for his leadership and gamesmanship throughout this season.

The Rutgers men’s basketball team arguably had its biggest win of the season Tuesday night against Maryland. The Scarlet Knights (19-11, 10-9) celebrated their huge win on Senior Night. They honored the careers of fourth-year junior guard Joey Downes, senior center Shaq Carter and co-captain graduate student forward Akwasi Yeboah. 

Baker provides consistency and leadership for Rutgers

This past Sunday afternoon, the Rutgers men’s basketball team's co-captain, junior guard Geo Baker, achieved a career milestone. After putting up 16 points in a loss against Wisconsin, Baker surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his collegiate career. The Scarlet Knights' (18-10, 9-8) guard averages 10.7 points per game (PPG) this year and 11.3 PPG over the span of his career. Baker is the 44th player in Rutgers history to reach the 1,000 point milestone. 

Rutgers gets narrow win in overtime thriller

The Rutgers men’s basketball team earned the win over Northwestern 77-73 in an overtime thriller. The Scarlet Knights (17-7, 8-5) trailed the entirety of the game until overtime. The Wildcats (6-16, 1-11) were up as much as 18 points versus Rutgers in the second half. Three players were in double digits for the Knights: graduate student forward Akwasi Yeboah (13), sophomore guard Ron Harper Jr. (10) and junior guard Geo Baker (25). 

Rutgers stays undefeated at home with victory over Purdue

The Rutgers men's basketball team secured its 15th win at the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC), helping it maintain the best D-1 home record in the country. The No. 25 Scarlet Knights (16-5, 7-3) took down Purdue 70-63. Rutgers was up 17 in the second half until the Boilermakers (11-10, 4-6) made the game a nail-biter down the stretch, cutting the Knights' lead to 3 with less than a minute to go. 

Rutgers travels to take on talented Iowa squad

For the first time in more than 40 years, the Rutgers men’s basketball team has landed a spot in the AP poll’s latest top 25 ranking. The No. 24 Scarlet Knights (14-4, 5-2) found out Monday morning that they were ranked nationally. After not having a winning season the past few years, the culture is finally settling in for Rutgers. Head coach Steve Pikiell expressed his thoughts on the team’s latest accomplishment.
