Rutgers community discusses rise of online gaming during pandemic

With stay-at-home orders issued in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, people have increasingly turned to online gaming. The ability to bring people together through collaboration toward a common goal makes video games effective for fighting the psychological effects of isolation, said Rutgers Esports Center Director Michael Fay in a press release.

Thomas Prusa, professor in the Department of Economics, spoke on April 16 about the short and long-term impacts of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on the economy in "The Long and Short of It: The Economic Impact of the Coronavirus.” The talk was part of the Scarlet Speakers in the Heart of Your Home virtual series. 







Rutgers student found dead in Orange Park

Yasir Williams, a School of Arts and Sciences junior, was reported missing on March 29 after leaving his home in East Orange, according to a statement from the Office of the County Prosecutor in Essex County. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Orange Public Safety Director Todd Warren announced Williams’s body was found in a pond in the City of Orange Township on Saturday, according to the statement.
