Rutgers secures commitment from 4-star prospect Cliff Omoruyi

Although the Rutgers men's basketball team was denied its expected entry into the NCAA Tournament, fans were cut a break on Sunday when four-star prospect, 6-foot-10-inch center Cliff Omoruyi announced on Twitter that he was committing to play on the Banks. Omoruyi is one of the most noteworthy recruits for head coach Steve Pikiell and presents an opportunity for the Scarlet Knights to build off of one of their best seasons in years.






Mason Gross students weigh in on classes moving online

Recently, Rutgers — alongside many universities — have shuttered operations for in-person classes and have transitioned online. The transition has been smooth within some majors, but not as smooth with others. I’ll be looking at the transition from in-person classes to online spaces by the hardest hit — Mason Gross School of the Arts students.


Rutgers student working with NASA on research of red algae, how it explains life on Earth

Julia Van Etten, a doctoral candidate in the Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolution, is currently working with NASA on a research project that investigates how red algae can help explain early life on Earth. Van Etten works closely with her advisor, Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya, distinguished professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, and his team.

Junior guard Joey Downes had been with the Rutgers men’s basketball team since 2016. With the season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he looks back on his time wearing the scarlet and white. Sharing stories about his teammates and also head coach Steve Pikiell, Downes's account gives an insight into his years with the Knights. Being one of the veterans on a young team, Downes is excited to see what his former teammates have to offer for the 2020-21 season and beyond.

Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences Dawei Li, Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Jiacan Yuan and Director of the Institute of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Robert Kopp published a study titled “Escalating Global Exposure to Compound Heat-Humidity Extremes with Warming” in the journal “Environmental Research Letters.”
