Many of Rutgers' faculty will not sign up for Course Atlas until negotiations finished

Many Rutgers University—New Brunswick faculty are not signing up for the University’s new scheduling system, Course Atlas, because the software they claim to be designed to help students graduate on time and reduce transportation time does not take into account commitments for research, grant writing, conference speaking, book writing, mentoring, labs and parental or relative care. 

Rutgers professor receives more than $1 M. for wind turbine research

A $1,356,872 grant has been awarded to Onur Bilgen, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to develop new technologies for offshore wind turbines, according to a School of Engineering press release.

Supporting Homeless Innovatively Loving Others (SHILO), an organization that brings together interfaith groups, Rutgers students and the surrounding community to help provide resources to New Brunswick’s homeless, has been told it can no longer set up its booths Sunday mornings at the New Brunswick Train Station unless it receives a permit.

At Friday’s Knock Out Opioid Abuse Town Hall at the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC), Rutgers Athletics Director Pat Hobbs, former Rutgers football and NFL quarterback Ray Lucas and attendants shared their experiences in dealing with the effects of the epidemic on themselves or loved ones. They also shared how to overcome and prevent the same to future young athletes and college students. 

Barchi says Rutgers has begun communicating with University Climate Change Coalition

At the Rutgers Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 25, 2019, University President Robert L. Barchi announced that the University has begun sharing information with the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3), a coalition of universities committed to carbon neutrality and carbon resiliency. 

RBHS faculty union is deadlocked in contract negotiations with Rutgers administration

The Rutgers American Association of University Professors and Biomedical and Health Sciences of New Jersey (AAUP-BHSNJ), a union representing approximately 1,400 University faculty at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), has been in a long-term, deadlocked negotiation for a new contract with administrators.

Nabil Adam, the former vice chancellor for the Office of Research and Collaborations at Rutgers—Newark, has been put back on administrative leave by the University pending an Office of Employment Equity (OEE) investigation that has been re-opened, according to a message shared with The Daily Targum sent by Nancy Cantor, chancellor of Rutgers University—Newark, to Adam’s former graduate student with whom he had an 18-month long relationship.
