NJ Office of Homeland Security works to combat coronavirus disinformation

The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP) is now working to combat the spread of disinformation, rumors and scams regarding the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, according to a press release. It is doing this in collaboration with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey Regional Operations Intelligence Center and the New Jersey State Police.

Every so often I receive a Snapchat notification showing me memories from a year ago, two years ago and even three years ago. Sometimes it can make me sad to look back and see myself with some friends I don’t talk to anymore or look at myself before I gained the dreaded freshman 15. Sometimes I can’t wish but want to go back — to times that were easier, with people that I miss, and before I changed so much. 

NJ Wind Council releases report on plan for WIND Institute

Gov. Phil Murphy’s (D-N.J.) Wind Council released a report yesterday with the plans for creating New Jersey’s Wind Innovation and New Development (WIND) Institute, according to a press release. The purpose of the institute is to act as a center for education, research, innovation and workforce training related to offshore wind development in New Jersey, as well as the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.

The Rutgers American Association of University Professors and American Federation of Teachers (AAUP-AFT) sent a letter to Rutgers administrators proposing the establishment of a Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act Commission to handle the distribution of funds to students economically impacted by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, according to a press release.

Rutgers community uses 3D printing to make personal protective equipment during pandemic

Members of the Rutgers community are using 3D printing technology to create personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face shields and intubation boxes, for healthcare professionals during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, according to a press release. 

One World: Together at Home concert raises millions for WHO after Trump defunding

Last Saturday, Lady Gaga was one of many stars to kick off the 8-hour livestream One World: Together at Home concert. More than 20 million viewers tuned in, which was more than both the viewership of this year’s Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards, according to Nielsen ratings. The event raised approximately $128 million for the World Health Organization (WHO) and other coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response efforts.

Don't look at this time period as one to relax, remember others

This is a strange time we’re living in. With coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases all over the globe, I find that every thought I have is directly followed by one related to COVID-19. Even social media, which I thought would be a distraction from all the chaos in the world, is often filled with uninformed opinions about how to handle coronavirus. 

Rutgers' Pikiell, Baker, Harper Jr. earn All-Met honors

As the Rutgers men’s basketball team builds off of a noteworthy season, the Scarlet Knights saw more recognition for their efforts on the court. The Met Basketball Writers Association named head coach Steve Pikiell All-Met Coach of the Year, adding to junior guard Geo Baker earning All-Met First Team honors and sophomore guard Ron Harper Jr. earning All-Met Second Team accolades. 

Murphy provides coronavirus update as newest medical field station opens

Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) held a press conference and announced 3,643 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in New Jersey, bringing the state’s total to 92,387 cases. He also announced 379 new deaths, which is the highest number of reported deaths in a single day and brings the state’s total to 4,753 deaths.
