NBPD investigates carjacking near Hamilton, Harvey Streets

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a carjacking that took place yesterday at approximately 5:59 a.m. near Hamilton and Harvey Streets, according to a University-wide email alert.

The victim, who is not affiliated with the University, reported that a male approached his vehicle demanding he hand over his property and displayed a handgun, according to the email.

After the victim handed over items of value, the perpetrator fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, according to the email. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries, and his vehicle was later found unoccupied.

The perpetrator’s physical description is currently limited, according to the email.

Anyone with information concerning the incident or who was in the area at the time should contact the NBPD Detective Bureau.

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) reminded students to take safety precautions, including staying alert to their surroundings, avoiding dark or isolated places and walking in groups at night, according to the email. The RUPD also issues escorts to students, faculty and staff who request them through the police communications center.
