A 29-year-old woman attended classes at New Brunswick High School after purportedly enrolling with a fake birth certificate claiming to be a teenager, according to an article from Patch.com.

On Tuesday, New Brunswick school district Superintendent Aubrey Johnson shared the details of the incident with the public during a Board of Education meeting.

The school district contacted the police after learning of the breach. The woman was subsequently charged with one count of providing a false government document, according to the article.

"She was here for four days before being found out," Johnson said. "She has (since) been barred from entering district property."

He said the school district has reached out to students that had contact with her and instructed them to refrain from any future contact, according to the article.

The school district is reviewing its enrollment process after this event in an effort to prevent such situations from occurring again, Johnson said.

Currently, public schools in New Jersey are required to admit all unaccompanied children immediately, regardless of whether they have documentation.

The law provides students a 30-day grace period to gather the necessary documents before a district can require adequate documentation and deregister a student, according to the article.
