Today, a reported gas leak forced the evacuation and closure of Scott Hall on the College Avenue campus for several hours, according to the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD).

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m., and the building remained closed until approximately 4 p.m. due to the suspected gas leak, according to University-wide alerts.

The New Brunswick Fire Department, Rutgers Emergency Services and the RUPD responded to the gas leak. RUPD officers were stationed at the different entrances to keep people out of the building during the incident.

Kenneth Cop, the chief of the RUPD, told The Daily Targum that there were no reported injuries caused by the gas leak or evacuation.

The building was deemed safe shortly after 1 p.m. but remained closed for several more hours while repairs were made. Some classes scheduled to take place inside Scott Hall were held outside at Voorhees Mall during the closure.
