The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating an attempted abduction that took place Monday at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to a University-wide email alert.

The incident took place on Easton Avenue between Bristol and Prospect Streets, where the victim, who is not affiliated with the University, was walking.

The victim reported that a male driver pulled up next to her, showed her a handgun and demanded she gets inside his vehicle. The victim then fled the area, and the vehicle continued down Easton Avenue toward Somerset Street.

The perpetrator is described as an older white male in his late 30s or early 40s. He was driving a newer four-door red or maroon pickup truck, possibly a Honda Ridgeline, according to the email.

Anyone with information regarding the incident or who was in the area at the time should contact the NBPD Detective Bureau.

The Rutgers University Police Department advised students to take safety precautions, including remaining alert, avoiding isolated or dark areas and walking in groups at night.
