On Friday, at approximately 10:23 a.m., a 4.8-magnitude earthquake shook buildings across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter was approximately 4 miles north of Whitehouse Station, 30 minutes away from the Rutgers—New Brunswick campus. But all University campuses felt the shock, as quakes were felt as far south as Delaware and as far north as Massachusetts.

Rutgers issued an emergency text message alert to the University community at approximately 10:33 a.m. It stated there was a "possible earthquake in the region" and "no immediate reports of damage."
