Two people injured in shooting near College Avenue campus

Early Friday morning, a shooting occurred near the College Avenue campus, resulting in two injuries, according to a University-wide alert.

The shooting happened at approximately 2:03 a.m. on Easton Avenue and Hamilton Street and prompted an emergency alert to the University community via text message to avoid the area.

Both victims are affiliated with Rutgers and were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, one with a gunshot wound from a stray bullet and the other with undisclosed injuries.

No description of the suspect was provided in the University-wide alert, and the New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time or has any information about the incident to contact the NBPD Detective Bureau.
