Coaching defections force flood to re-work first staff

Rutgers head football coach Kyle Flood must fill three more positions on his first coaching staff after three of his assistant coaches left for the NFL, according to The Star-Ledger.

Special teams coordinator Phil Galiano and graduate assistant Andrew Janocko will join former head coach?Greg Schiano with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Running backs’ coach?Ben?Sirmans will coach the same position for the St. Louis Rams.

Flood recently hired Sirmans from Boston?College, but Galiano and Janocko were members from last year’s coaching staff.

Flood promoted Galiano from defensive line coach to special teams coordinator after the initial coaching exodus.

Janocko followed former offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti to Rutgers last season from Pittsburgh, where he was a quarterback during is playing career. He worked with the quarterbacks in Piscataway and was expected to provide stability as Dave Brock takes over the Knights’ offense this season.

Only Robb Smith and Flood remain from last year’s coaching staff.
