This afternoon, an unknown error caused some Rutgers students to be temporarily unenrolled from their courses on the Canvas website and their unofficial transcripts to be incomplete online.

A University-wide email, sent before 4 p.m., informed students of the outage and called it a temporary issue. The University's Information Technology website also said that instructors could not access their courses and, therefore, could not grade assignments, among other tasks.

The email said that Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, and the Rutgers Office of Information and Technology are working to resolve the issue. No other universities appear to be impacted by the error.

The incident resulted in several students reporting issues regarding their inability to access their courses, according to the University's Information Technology website.

Students shared their confusion and frustration regarding the issue on social media with more than a dozen posts on the Rutgers subreddit page and several tweets.

Alan Maass, a spokesperson from the Rutgers American Association of University Professors and American Federation of Teachers (AAUP-AFT), confirmed to the Targum that the organization was not responsible or involved in today's outage.

While some students' courses have become accessible on Canvas again, there is currently no estimated time for the repairs.

As of Feb. 26, the University has confirmed that the OIT informed students in a University-wide email Sunday morning that the issue was fixed Saturday evening and measures were taken to secure the site’s maintenance.
