Yesterday, three students and three staff members were killed during a mass shooting at The Covenant School, a private religious school in Nashville, Tennessee, according to an article from Reuters.

The shooter, 28-year-old Audrey Elizabeth Hale, was killed by police officers approximately 15 minutes after law enforcement was alerted.

Hale was a former student of The Covenant School and had several guns during the attack. Prior to the incident, Hale created maps of the campus and a manifesto regarding the attack, which are being investigated by law enforcement, according to the article.

There have been 89 school shootings over the first 86 days of 2023, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database cited in the article.

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. addressed the shooting yesterday afternoon and asked Congress to pass an assault weapons ban.

"We have to do more to stop gun violence. It's ripping our communities apart ... I call on Congress again to pass my assault weapons ban," he said.
