Last week, Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) announced that $301,324 in funding will go toward improving the radio communication equipment used by emergency responders in Metuchen, according to a press release.

Rutgers has handled emergency dispatching for the borough of Metuchen since August 1, 2022.

These new funds, sourced from the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, are meant to improve communication between Middlesex County and Rutgers' dispatch systems.

"This funding ensures (Metuchen emergency responders) have the equipment they need to communicate with other emergency responders seamlessly, which will help save lives during times of crisis," Pallone said.
