Earlier today, during a visit to South Korea, Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N.J.) announced that Rutgers and Seoul National University are expanding their partnership, according to a press release.

Today, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the two universities to expand their existing agreement, formed in 2009, focusing specifically on growing student exchange opportunities.

The agreement allows faculty to exchange visits between the universities and expand collaboration on research projects, according to the release.

The expansion is part of an agreement between three New Jersey universities, Rutgers, Kean University and New Jersey Institute of Technology, and different universities in Korea.

Antonio Calcado, Rutgers' executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Ji-Yeung Jang, assistant vice president for Global Affairs at the University, were in Seoul with Murphy for the announcement of the MOU.

"These agreements lay the groundwork for opportunities that will support our state's economic growth and promote international innovation," Murphy said.
